Frequently Asked Questions

Want to Know More?

What does the “+” in “41+ adjustable settings” mean?

Opus has 41 main settings on the outer adjustment ring, numbered from 1 to 11 with 4 minor increments between each, allowing for 0.25-level adjustments. This gives Opus 120 precise grind positions. The inner blue ring beneath the load bin fine-tunes these increments even further—that’s the “+” in “41+”!

What does the inner adjustment ring do, and how do I use it?

The inner adjustment ring on Opus allows for precise grind size adjustments beyond the outer ring. Here’s how it works:

  • Outer Ring: Visible when looking directly at Opus, this ring has numbered settings from 1 (finest) to 11 (coarsest), with 4 minor increments between each setting, providing up to 120 grind positions.
  • Inner Ring: Located inside Opus, this ring enables micro-adjustments. By adjusting it, you can shift the outer ring’s range, making 1 adjustment on the inner ring equal to 2/3 of an outer increment.

To use the inner ring:

  1. Empty Load Bin: Ensure it’s clear.
  2. Center Outer Ring: Rotate it to setting 6.
  3. Remove Load Bin: Twist counterclockwise and lift away to access the inner ring.
  4. Press Down: Compress the tabs on the inner ring to enable adjustment.
  5. Rotate: Adjust the inner ring to fine-tune your grind setting (counterclockwise for finer, clockwise for coarser).
  6. Engage: Release the calibration ring and check that it rotates with the outer ring.
  7. Reinstall Load Bin: Ensure it's seated properly for safety and operation.

The inner ring can also expand Opus’s grind range and calibrate for burr wear over time.

How do I clean and maintain Opus?

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your Opus grinder, follow these cleaning and maintenance steps:

  • Exterior: Use a non-abrasive damp cloth to wipe down the exterior and load bin.
  • Exit Chute/Anti-Static: Clean the exit chute every 60 cycles for peak anti-static performance. Remove the catch cup and use the Fellow cleaning brush (or a clean makeup/paint brush) to gently “swipe” around the inside of the exit chute.
  • Burrs: To clean the burrs, remove the load bin, take off the outer burr, and brush the burrs with the Fellow cleaning brush (or a clean makeup/paint brush).

Regular maintenance will help keep Opus functioning at its best!

Is Opus suitable for grinding espresso?

Yes! Opus is designed to grind for all brew methods, including the finest espresso for a true 9-bar shot, as well as the coarsest grind for cold brew. For recommended grind ranges for different brew methods, refer to our Gear Guide and the Get to Know You Guide included in the box.
